“Given the repressive nature of national governments [in Central Asia and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region], the presence of local and independent trade unions is virtually non-existent. With the unions’ limited role to play, it is key for international and civil society organisations such as Anti-Slavery International to join forces in the fight against State imposed forced labour."
